The QINGDAO INTERNATIONAL YACHT CLUB with ‘CHINA TEAM’
The America's Cup is a challenge between yacht clubs. The yacht club supporting CHINA TEAM for the America's Cup is the Qingdao International Yacht Club, which, in addition to organizing the 2008 Olympic Games, made a remarkable entrance into the prestigious group of yacht clubs.
Today, the Qingdao International Yacht Club is striving to become the center of Chinese nautical events and the more of marine sports. The Olympic marina is almost at the point of completion. It is by any country's standards gigantic and several times larger than Minimes in La Rochelle, France. It constitutes the heart a new zone of activity which cohabits with the old town and the German architecture inherited by the Germans of Bavaria.
Situated in the Fu’Shan Bay, the Qingdao International Yacht Club, headed by DONG Yong Guan, is organizing a series of meetings and events between 2005 and 2008 with the vision of preparing for the Cup and the Olympic Games. In September 2006, the yacht club hosted both pre-Olympic regattas and CHINA TEAM training sessions including recruiting (sailing camp). Even with these two big events, it is a country with 1 billion and three hundred million inhabitants that are just discovering sailing and water sports.
