In a press release sent out the 3rd of October, ACM spoke about the possibility of delaying the America's Cup. The situation has been at a standstill for the last three months. If the situation is not resolved quickly, it seems more and more unrealistic that the challengers would be on the start line for the first eliminations in eight months and even less so for the new boats in a year and a half. Visibly, the legalities between Oracle and Alinghi could drag on …to the justified concern of the organiser:

" As a consequence of the uncertainty and the delays arising from the Golden Gate Yacht Club Law suit in New York, AC Management (ACM) is concerned that the feasibility of organising the next Americas Cup in 2009 has been effectively compromised. ACM will in the coming days engage in consultations with the Defender, the Challenger and the Spanish Authorities on this specific matter. ACM is considering all options, including the possibility of postponing the event to a later date. In the meantime, ACM understands that the SNG continues to try to find a resolution of teh dispute pending with the Golden Gate Yacht Club in New York.
