Romuald’s dream…

Document Actions
It is the story of a 13 year old youngster, who lived in Aubervilliers and found himself in the Courneuve park one afternoon, looking at the remote control boats sailing around on the pond.

He found them beautiful but what made them go? Was it because of the earth or was there a trick? Was it the sails, the strings? He approached the pond and met the owner who explained everything. The young man named Romuald, came back every Sunday to find the owner of the boat, watch, and ask questions: what is a foil, electronic systems, a waterline? He learned and became fascinated. At 14, Romuald, knew all the remote controlled models and asked his mother for a catamaran. She gave him one and life is beautiful, Romuald is sailing. It is the beginning of a voyage; a dream. Unfortunately, a year later, the beautiful sailboat goes under a barge! It seems it is the end of the adventure.

The youngster goes on to volleyball and would like to become a professional athlete. A few years of training later, the dream crumbles, and his knees give way, recuperation follows, the deception is bitter. During this time, he considers leaving for Grenoble, then Canada, because he also loves the mountains. Finally, he takes on a position as an Information Technology maintenance technician. He takes it on with just as much enthusiasm: “I love my career, really and, I don’ have any regrets. On the other hand, because I couldn’t do any more sports, so I started up models again. I bought my first boat, which gave me the chance to know people in the field, and then another, and then I got into the Cergy club “Hippocampe”".

It is a grown man, dressed completely in white with a sailing look, but above all with big eyes stemming from his childhood and a big smile telling of his passion. Boats from China Team: CHN 69, CHN 79, CHN 95, were built; painted by himself. He points out, dragon was a real nightmare, a headache with paint that would drip, the big fingers were impossible to do, and the big image was difficult to paint. He showed us his photos CHN 69 and 79, magnificent, more realistic than the real ones. It is funny that even the team, in blue…is correct and we can even see Pierre Mas on the helm.

He speaks of his boats like the sailors do of their America’s Cup Class. CHN 79, he put it straight away into the water without having developed it for the France Cup 2006 and finished unfortunately second with the hull scratched, the mailsail torn, and the electronic system in shambles. CHN 69, actually 1st in the French 2007 championships, while CHN 95 was in development, he wasn’t to sure to have the courage to paint the boat himself.

The man is untiring, he could speak for hours, for his passion about boats, but also about China, dragons, and the oriental culture which fascinates him. Then the China Team adventure seduced him, because it was two years ago that he said that his boats resembled the America’s Cup Class. It was just then that all the team sites started to appear on the Internet. It was in discovering Longtze, his original design and the spirit of China Team that the convergence of his passions raised up to the adventure in its way. there you have it.. An amazing history! Furthermore, Romuald, speaks of the team as if he was part of it. Of course you can imagine… his real dream one day is to see one of the America’s Cup Class for real, actually touch CHN 95, get on board and if possible go sailing.

In any case, the message has been passed on and Romuald after all is a member of China Team isn’t he? In him we see a true light and with him, CHN 69 will be at the top of the fleet and could win the Cup in October 2007!
