More than 30 rights holder television TV chains broadcast the America’s Cup across the planet.

The television coverage for this edition is certainly the most substantial in all of the history of this event. More than 30 rights holder television chains across the world broadcast the 32nd America’s Cup, and practically in every continent.

In China, CCTV is producing a 10-minute program every morning over the competition. The huge America’s Cup concert in Peking the 1st of April 2006 which was watched by 626 million television viewers…more than anyone would dream of in Europe! Interest in the Cup is also seen through the written press as Li Yifei, director of MTV China, explained in passing at the base a few days ago. “The Cup is also covered very well in written press and on the web. Sina.com, for example, one of the most used portals, like Google for you, has created a special section for the Cup. Actually, there isn’t a day that goes by where you can find an article on the Cup, in the daily press, people’s press, style magazines like “Pictorial on the Bund” in Shaghai which has put out a special edition. In the Peking airport, there is a lot of publicity, posters, in the airline press…”

In Spain, the host country of the 32nd America’s Cup, TVE and Canal 9 are providing live action from all the races, while coverage is also strong in Italy (La7), France (Canal+), Scandinavia (Viasat) Germany (ARD and ZDF), all territories with teams in the event.

In the United States, Versus (formerly OLN) will begin live coverage with the Semi Finals and CBS will broadcast 1 hour wrap-up highlight programmes nationwide at the conclusion of the Louis Vuitton Cup (17 June) and the America’s Cup Match (8 July). In the United Kingdom, BskyB is showing live races.

For Switzerland, home of the Defender Alinghi, the national public broadcasters (SF, TSR and TSI) have announced extended coverage of the America’s Cup Match starting on June 23rd.

Over 150 countries are receiving the exciting TV broadcasts produced by ACTV in Valencia thanks to pan-regional coverage provided by Canal+ Horizons and Supersport (Africa), ESPN (Latin America), Al Jazeera (Middle East), Viasat (Scandinavia & Baltic) and Eurosport Asia. Additionally, BBC World announced last month it would be broadcasting a series of vignettes and long form programmes in collaboration with Louis Vuitton and AC Management.

In all, America’s Cup three-month television coverage will be seen by millions of viewers around the world. Almost 200 hours of live coverage is being produced by ACTV, as well as more than 50 daily highlight programmes and almost 100 news feeds.
