Magical Longtze It was a magical moment for the whole team Tuesday evening. First because the base, open and illuminated was magnificent. Next because everyone was there. They came from China, France, Europe, the United States, to christen the Chinese America’s Cup yacht. Longtze, the son of the dragon, majestically resting on its stand, oversaw the activities from above. At eight oclock, Xavier de Lesquen welcomed the guests in Spanish, followed by Rita Barbera, the mayor of Valencia, the Ambassador of China in Madrid, Rosa Lladro, Wang Chaowang, Jean-Christophe Babin, director of Tag Heuer and Jim Long representing Chivas. The team then filed out along the boat under beams of red and gold light before Xin Li, in the spotlight, christened Longtze amidst applause. The Chinese community of Valencia was well represented last night, electrifying the atmosphere with their enthusiasm and emotion, they then took up in choir with the team, at the end of the christening, a Chinese sailor song. Review the images of a beautiful event!
The first images of the dragon, throwing off spray from the waves in Valencia. CHN95 is the first Chinese Americas Cup class in the mythic history of this trophy. It was built in Dong Guan before coming to Spain in December 2006 and will participate in the 32nd America's Cup this coming April.
The town of Xiamen, poised on an island on the southern coast of China, hosted the China Team crew last week for the final Sailing Camp of 2006. While the CHN95 left Chinese soil and set off for its final destination in Spain, 5 new Chinese sailors were competing for a place on the China Team crew. Here are the high spots.
CHN95 left Dong Guan 18 November in the morning. It will arrive in Valencia in a month’s time, probably around the 18 December.
The America's Cup, it's village, and the "Foredeck". Designed by the English architect David Chipperfield, the building has sober lines and is going to become a landmark in Valencia. Tourists, travelers, fans, journalists, team members... will be able to follow the America's Cup experience on the giant screen, see the boats pass through the canal, buy a Vuitton bag, soak up the sun or have a drink. On the margins of Class America : sailors, a boat, a crew and a stroll around the base. A visit backstage on the fringe of the regattas!
